Treasuring my time with Lucas

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 7:18 pm

I drop off Brooks at school in the carpool line each morning and watch as he waves goodbye to me and walks into his big school building with his teacher.    My heart sinks a little because it seems like only yesterday that he was a little baby who would spit-up on me all the time and loved to ride in his stroller.  Now he is this independent school boy, who doesn’t need me quite as much as he once did.  I have been coming home and holding Lucas as tight as I can because I know that there are only a few short years, and he will be off to school too.  I never dreamed the time went by this fast.

Brooks’ first day of school and his school “costume”

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 1:42 am

Brooks started pre-K today and was ready to head out the door by 7:30 a.m. when we didn’t have to be at school until 9:00 a.m. this morning.  However, tomorrow he has to start being there at 8:15, and we will have to leave around 7:30 to deal with the carpool lines, etc.  He has been practicing getting up early with an alarm clock and has the clock set for 6:30 tomorrow morning.  We will see how this goes!  He had a great first day at school, and I really feel that God led us to this area to be at this school.  After I heard all about what they will do this year, I wanted to go back to school!  Brooks looked really handsome in his uniform, and the funny thing is that he refers to his uniform as his “costume.”  He told me before he went to bed tonight that he had his costume ready for tomorrow.

Introducing "Monkey" to the monkeys

This past Friday, we took the boys to Zoo Atlanta as a last trip for the Summer before the start of school this week.  Brooks said his favorite animal was the pink flamingo, which we thought was an interesting choice!  I hope he doesn’t want a plastic one for the yard!  Lucas seemed most impressed with the elephants.  We even had to take “Monkey” along to introduce him to the monkeys at the zoo.

First trip to Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar in Augusta

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 6:46 pm

Last weekend we made an overnight trip to Augusta to visit my parents.  We made our first trip Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar.  As I grew-up in Augusta, I can’t believe I had never been there before!  Well, it is definitely kid friendly, and the boys loved it.  Sissy (aka Fran), Uncle Bobby, Felton, and Gigi (aka my mom) went with us.  Lucas had the best time rubbing on Felton’s head and calling him “Baby.”

Lucas with the Vacuum Cleaner Again

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 6:29 pm

We had cleaning day at the house one day this past week, and I had some great help.  Lucas took his vacuuming job very seriously.  He even lifted rugs to vacuum underneath them!

Yuengling!

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 3:11 am

I had to write this last post before I went to bed.   For whatever reason, Lucas’ word for water sounds just like “Yuengling.”  He says this when he sees a puddle, a swimming pool, the ocean, or wants to drink water.  Aaron and I don’t even drink beer, so he would have not heard us say it.  He makes us laugh every time we hear him ask for water and just wonder what other people must be thinking when our 20 month old is asking for Yuengling!

Two Different Personalities

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 3:02 am

As Lucas gets older, his personality is beginning to really shine through, and this little guy is something else!  He and Brooks really enjoy each other, but Aaron and I think it is so funny to see how diferent they are.  Brooks is always so cautious and wouldn’t dare break any rules.  Lucas on the other hand knows no limits!  At the beach, Brooks was initially scared of the ocean and the waterslide at the pool.  Lucas didn’t hesitate for a second to run into the ocean or go down the waterslide.  In fact, his lack of fear actually scares me.  I am already looking into water safety courses for him.  Brooks was also scared of the fireworks, and Lucas was in awe during the entire show exclaiming, BOOM! and WHOAAAA!

Brooks tells us all the time that Lucas is one wild and crazy baby.  We were on the playground yesterday, and Lucas headed straight for the tallest slide.  Brooks said, “Mom, Lucas is scaring me!”  I said he scares me too, Brooks!

Fourth of July at St. Simons

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 2:50 am

Aaron and I took Brooks and Lucas along with our two nieces, Marianna and Emma to the beach with us for the Fourth of July weekend.  Brooks and Lucas were thrilled to have Marianna and Emma with them.   We went to the beach, the pool, saw the Fourth of July fireworks show, played putt-putt, and went to see the movie UP.  Brooks did not want to get into the ocean when we first got there but was riding waves by the time we left!  Lucas was the only person to get a hole in one at putt-putt and quit playing right after his hole in one.  He wanted to stop while he was ahead!

Trip to The Swamp

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 2:33 am

In late June, Brooks, Lucas, and I accompanied Aaron on a work trip to Orlando. To break-up the trip, we told Brooks that we were going to stop in Gainseville, Florida, to see where the Gators lived. He was pretty excited about this. We got to Gainseville and made our way to The Swamp. We were so surprised that The Swamp is actually open. We walked in and had a seat! Brooks and Lucas ran around in the stadium. I have to admit that it was pretty intimidating. We don’t play well against the Gators in Jacksonville, and I definitely think our chances would be worse at The Swamp. Brooks said he liked The Swamp but Sanford Stadium was still his favorite!

Obsessed with Cleaning

Filed under: Uncategorized — by brooksandlucas @ 2:53 am

I can’t decide if it’s a good thing or bad thing, but my boys are obsessed with cleaning!  The good thing is that they try to be helpful and want to vacuum and mop. The bad thing is that they keep the cleaning supplies like the broom, vacuum cleaner, and mop scattered all over the house. This morning I also caught them cleaning windows with Windex and my make-up brushes! I was definitely not happy about this cleaning help and had to spend several minutes getting the make-up mess off the window.  I have attached some pictures of them recently cleaning my grandmother’s house when we visited her this past week.
